Our English language requirements. Details of our specific English language requirements for each course are shown in the entry requirements section for each of our undergraduate courses. We have three main levels of English, depending on the course applied for: standard, high and advanced. IELTS. In terms of IELTS, these three levels are:
English Language requirements. All teaching at Sussex is in English. You must prove you have a good level of written and spoken English to be accepted on to your course, and this may form part of your offer. Check your course to see our English language requirements.
Prepare for your studies with our English language courses. Some universities and colleges require you to have achieved a certain level of English before starting your studies. We offer pre-sessional English courses for students applying to Sussex, and Intensive English courses for students who wish to study in the UK more generally.

You can start your studies with a UKVI approved Secure English Language Test (SELT), provided you have met all the programme entry requirements. The test results must have been achieved in the past 24 months and meet the minimum English equivalency score for your chosen programme. If you want to study an academic course at the International Study Centre, you will need to meet certain conditions, called entry requirements. Entry requirements typically include a mixture of: English language – these requirements are expressed as Academic IELTS for UKVI* scores.
