The Three-Body Problem (Chinese: 三体; lit. 'three body') is a 2008 novel by the Chinese science fiction author Liu Cixin. It is the first novel in the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy.
The three-body problem is a special case of the n-body problem. Historically, the first specific three-body problem to receive extended study was the one involving the Moon, Earth, and the Sun. In an extended modern sense, a three-body problem is any problem in classical mechanics or quantum mechanics that models the motion of three particles.
Based on the Chinese novel series Remembrance of Earth's Past by computer engineer-turned-fiction author Liu Cixin, it is its third streaming series adaptation after the animated The Three-Body Problem in Minecraft (2014–2020) and the Chinese live-action Three-Body (2023), and the first not exclusively in Mandarin.
