Feb 8, 2023 · Allan Nathan Kaufman, Professor of Physics at UC Berkeley, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2022 in Moraga, California. He was 95. Allan was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 21, 1927 to Millie and Justin Kaufman who emigrated from Germany in 1910.

Allan was loved and revered by several generations of PhD students spanning the 4+ decades of his tenure in the Berkeley Physics Department, students who went onto very successful careers in plasma physics and applied physics. ~Bruce I Cohen. Dr. Kaufman was a wonderful instructor.
