As a screenwriter, Ananthu became a close associate of director K. Balachander. Later, he began to work with other directors, such as C. Rudraiah, and did two films with him. Ananthu also worked as a sub-dialogue writer with Chitralaya Gopu for various films, including Galatta Kalyanam and Anubhavam Pudhumai, directed by C. V. Rajendran.
