What you can do is set the DuckDuckGo website as the startup page for your browser so each time that you will open your browser, it will open DuckDuckGo right away. If you are using Edge, follow the steps below.

Mar 20, 2023 · if "Search engine used in the address bar." is not already set to DuckDuckGo, select it from the dropdown. in "Search on new tabs uses search box or address bar" select address bar from the drop down, this will mean it will use your preferred search engine even if you type in the search box on the new tab page.
I would like to have DuckDuckGo to open as default when I open the new tab, but I can't find a way to do it. Is MS trying to limit access to other search engines? Why are you forcing us to use Bing?
Oct 17, 2020 · So use Duck Duck Go on all of your browsers to search from the URL box. It's popular! I hope this helps. Based on the results you report back I may have other suggestions if necessary. If you will wait to choose whether the problem is resolved, then I will continue to help until the problem is fixed.
You can also specify that when you search from the New Tab Page, you want to get results from DDG. The page that opens when you open Edge is specified at ⋯ (Settings and more) > Settings > On start-up. This is by default the New Tab Page, but you can enter any address you like, including https://duckduckgo.com.
Click the Search engine used in the address bar dropdown; you should now see DuckDuckGo; select it. If you'd also like to use DuckDuckGo instead of Bing on the New Tab Page, click on the Search on new tabs uses search box or address bar dropdown and select Address bar. Close the Settings page and test your new defaults.

FYI - I downloaded DuckDuckGo as an App to my task bar, then I also went to the "Settings>On Startup>Open a specific page or pages>Add a new page" and typed in the DDG url. Then I restarted my PC and clicked on the DDG icon in my task bar, and it opened up directly to the DDG search engine.
