Belton is a city in eastern Anderson County, South Carolina. The population was 4,134 at the 2010 census. [5] History. In 1845 a group was created to connect the Piedmont region of South Carolina by rail to the existing rail system which then ran from Columbia to Charleston.

May 17, 2016 · Belton. The town was named in honor of Judge John Belton O’Neall, president of the Greenville and Columbia Railroad. (Anderson County; 2020 pop. 4,484). Belton began in the 1850s as the site of a proposed junction of the Greenville and Columbia Railroad and spur line to Anderson planned by the Blue Ridge Railroad.
