San Bernardino (/ ˌsæn ˌbɜːrnəˈdiːnoʊ / ⓘ SAN BUR-nə-DEE-noh) is a city in and the county seat of San Bernardino County, California, United States. Located in the Inland Empire region of Southern California, the city had a population of 222,101 in the 2020 census, [8] making it the 18th-largest city in California.
With an area of 20,105 square miles (52,070 km 2), San Bernardino County is the largest county in the contiguous United States by area, although some of Alaska's boroughs and census areas are larger. The county is close to the size of West Virginia.
With a stretch of Route 66 and a long history as a railroad town, San Bernardino is the gateway to Southern California and San Bernardino Mountains.
